"Queen of Chardash"

The work of Imre Kalman is among the preferred titles in Varna. Already in 1923, just a few years after its premiere, Alexander Naumov, bandmaster of the Naval Brass Orchestra, and music teacher Krum Mumdzhiev realized the first production of the operetta with the participation of amateurs. In 1957, under the direction of Emil Glavanakov, the director Bohos Afeyan and the artist Marijana Popova, the first production of "The Queen of the Chardasha" by the professional Varna Opera Company took place. Since then, until now, the title has been an invariable part of the repertoire of the State Opera - Varna. The director Alexander Mutafchiyski is defined by music critics as a worthy follower of the unforgettable Vidin Daskalov (1929-2001), who directed the successful production of "The Queen of the Chardasha" in 1996.

The Stoyan Bachvarov Drama Theatre was founded in 1921 and is the oldest professional theatre in Varna. It has a Main Stage, Branch Stage, and Chamber Hall. The repertoire includes classic and contemporary plays, comedies, dramas, and children's performances. The theatre is named after the actor Stoyan Bachvarov and is a stage where generations of Bulgarian actors have performed.
