What is different about the production of The Barber of Seville at the Varna Opera House, explains director Antonio Petris: "For us, it is particularly important to get closer to the Italian style, to the Italian worldview. Using the principle of theater within the theater, in The Barber of Seville we bring a marionette theater directed by Figaro." The other feature is the emphasis on choreography. "In the Varna production of The Barber of Seville, the choreography occupies a worthy place. In it, along with the wonderful ballerinas of the Varna Opera, the rest of the characters are involved. Elements of Commedia dell'arte prevail," says choreographer Giuseppe Parente. Rossini's operatic masterpiece was performed for the first time on the Varna stage back in 1950 under the direction of Petar Raichev - the first world-famous Bulgarian tenor, founder and first chief artistic director of the Varna Opera. Since then, the work has been a constant presence in the opera's repertoire. The Stoyan Bachvarov Drama Theatre was founded in 1921 and is the oldest professional theatre in Varna. It has a Main Stage, Branch Stage, and Chamber Hall. The repertoire includes classic and contemporary plays, comedies, dramas, and children's performances. The theatre is named after the actor Stoyan Bachvarov and is a stage where generations of Bulgarian actors have performed.
