"For me, it has always been a great test to write the so-called annotation, with which to present in the most interesting, engaging and provocative way my new directorial experience. Once again I thought about the title of the play... "The Lover from ZanziBar"... What associations can the name of this play, unknown to the Bulgarian audience, evoke? Walking around the city and getting into different situations, I decided to ask almost the same question to people who somehow seemed strange, unpredictable and interesting to me. Almost as much as the actors I get a chance to work with… I wrote down the answers. I think this reporter's debut of mine will cause enough curious associations. In case the answers of my random interlocutors confuse you, things will become clear when you meet the real characters of The ZanziBar Lover. 1. "Zanzibar...That was somewhere in Africa, wasn't it? Well, somewhere in the middle of nowhere. So, well..." 2. "You're an actor, aren't you? Because you look alike, but I can't remember your name..." 3. "Please don't bother me with nonsense!" 4. "I'm not from Varna, ask a police officer..." 5. "Freddie, of course! 'The Show Must Go On!' Great!” 6. "I have to think a little...Toshko, don't pluck the roses, mom! What did you ask me?" 7. "Exotic, bro! We've got hot girls too. On this block. Get a flier!" 8. "Are you going to buy ice cream or what?" 9. "I think it was some kind of opera...I can't remember, I'm hungry." 10. "To tell you the truth, I don't understand those intimate things, however... Wait now, baby, the man is asking me something here..." Thanks for the interesting meetings!
