"Mozart's Concertos and Pipkov's Symphonies" - Cycle of symphony concerts
About this event
The series "Mozart's Concertos and Pipkov's Symphonies" offers an unusual and intriguing meeting between the classical grace of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and the idiosyncratic world of the Bulgarian composer Lubomir Pipkov. In a series of three concerts, the Varna Opera Orchestra, conducted by Pavel Balev, with the special participation of pianist Ludmil Angelov, will make unexpected musical parallels between two eras, two styles and different artistic worldviews. Mozart's piano concertos unfold the transparency of form, the richness of musical dialogue and the inimitable elegance of piano art, and Pipkov's symphonic language carries a characteristic national color, drama and deep emotional power. A particular highlight in the first concert of the series, this one on December 18, is Lubomir Pipkov's Second Symphony, a work that has not been performed in six decades. His return to the concert stage is not just a musical event, but an opportunity for a new meeting with an important page of the Bulgarian symphonic tradition. The series will also offer the audience an opportunity for deeper contact with the musical works and their context. Before each concert, there will be talks with the audience, led by maestro Pavel Balev, which will open additional perspectives to the program. Pavel Balev, one of the most prominent conductors of the contemporary opera and symphonic scene with international recognition, is Music Director of Opera Limoges in France, Music Director of the Academy of the National Orchestra of Cannes, Permanent Guest Conductor of the Baden-Baden Philharmonic and Permanent Guest Conductor of the Varna State Opera. Lyudmil Angelov has a rich biography as a soloist and chamber performer on the stages of the Berlin Philharmonic, Musikferaine and Staatsoper in Vienna, Pleyel and Gavo in Paris, Hercules in Munich, Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Lincoln Center in New York, La Scala in Milan, Alteoper in Frankfurt, BOZAR in Brussels, KKL in Lucerne, the Opera of Monte Carlo, "Brucknerhaus" in Linz, "Auditorio Nacional" in Madrid, "Auditori" - Barcelona, "Palau de la Música" - Valencia, the Zurich Opera, the National Philharmonic and the National Opera in Warsaw, the concert halls of the Moscow and Milan Conservatories, the Palace of Music in Athens, KBS in Seoul, etc.
