"Carmen"
About this event
The story of the temptress Carmen and the fatal love of Don José in rivalry with the bullfighter Escamilio is a musical masterpiece, bringing together the most emblematic arias "Habanera" and "Song of the Toreador". The Varna Symphony Orchestra will play under the baton of maestro Grigor Palikarov. In 1874, Georges Bizet, looking for a plot for a new opera, stopped at the famous novella of the French writer Prosper Mérimée (1803 - 1870) "Carmen", written in 1845. With the creation of the libretto, the two experienced writers and theater artists Henri Méliac (1831 – 1897) and Louis Halévy (1834 – 1908), authors of a large number of the texts of Offenbach's operettas, were engaged. The opera Carmen is one of the pinnacle of French music. It is a deeply realistic work, full of drama and sustained from beginning to end in a folk spirit. The music is saturated with life and boiling passions. Written in the spirit of Spanish musical folklore, it fits the plot perfectly. But despite the Spanish themes, taken from the wealth of folk songs of that people, the music of Georges Bizet is a true French art. The dramatic encounters and conflicts are depicted with deep psychological insight, and the musical characteristics of the characters are some of the most vividly expressed in the entire operatic literature.
