About this event

The Hungarian composer Imre Kalman /1882-1953/ created more than 20 operettas, which have remained in the musical treasury and in the repertoire of all theaters to this day - "The Queen of the Czardasha", "The Princess of the Circus", "The Bayaderka", "The Gypsy Primate", "Dutch Woman" and others. In 1924, Imre Kalman created his operetta "Countess Maritza" based on the libretto by Julius Brammer and Alfred Grünwald. On January 28 of the same year, it was played for the first time in Vienna, in the "Ann der Wien" theater. It was staged at the Palace Theatre, London and over 314 times at the Shubert Theatre, New York. The place of action is Hungary, the composer's homeland. The audience enters the Countess's estate in 1924, at the center of one of the most dizzying and romantic years after the First World War. An exceptional and captivating musical landscape from the very first chords of beautiful melodies, enlivened with exotic gypsy rhythms and the unstoppable passion of the Hungarian chardash, fills the narrative of the story of the rich and beautiful Countess Maritza. The plot of the work brings everyone into the glow of triumphantly sparkling joy. The unforgettable musical delight of the happy ending of this moving tale of the power of love remains in the hearts of the audience.
