The Good Man of Szechuan is one of Bertolt Brecht's most significant works, in which the playwright uses the parable form as a vehicle for profound social and ethical exploration. The action takes place in the Chinese province of Sichuan, where the gods descend to search for the last remaining good person, and they find him in the person of the prostitute Shen Te. In an environment of poverty, injustice and disintegrating human connections, the very idea of ​​goodness is put to the test. The story does not focus solely on personal fate, but examines how society influences moral choices and pushes conscience to the limits of survival. In the director's interpretation of Rostislav Georgiev (ASKEER 2025 in the "Rising Star" category; award from the National Competition for Young Theater Director "Slavi Shkarov" 2022), the text sounds like an up-to-date comment on the value of humanity in a world that often perceives virtue as weakness. The play does not give easy answers, but confronts the audience with Brecht's main question: is it possible to preserve your morality in a society that systematically undermines its foundations.
