About this event

"The Good Person of Szechwan" is one of the most significant works of Bertolt Brecht, in which the playwright uses the parable form as a means of deep social and ethical exploration. The action takes place in the Chinese province of Szechwan, where the gods descend to seek the last remaining good person, and they find one in the figure of the prostitute Shen Te. In an environment of poverty, injustice and disintegrating human bonds, the very idea of goodness is put to the test. The story does not focus solely on personal fate, but examines how society influences moral choices and pushes conscience to the limits of survival. In the directorial interpretation of Rostislav Georgiev (ASKEER 2025 in the "Rising Star" category; award from the "Slavi Shkarov" National Competition for Young Theatre Director 2022), the text sounds like a timely commentary on the value of humanity in a world that often perceives virtue as weakness. The performance does not provide easy answers, but confronts the audience with Brecht's central question: is it possible to preserve your morals in a society that systematically undermines their foundations? A co-production with the "Varna Summer" International Theatre Festival
