"The Boot"

"The play begins with one of the most sinister events in Bulgarian history - the massacre of the regents, ministers and people's representatives on February 2, 1945. Its dynamic dramaturgy reveals to us the consequences of these murders on the executioners and the innocent witness forced to bury the pit in which the bodies were thrown. The images are excellently constructed, and their replicas are exactly found and correspond to the characters' characters. In our modern dramaturgy, "The Boot" is one of the first attempts to tell about this inhuman act of the communist power imposed and strengthened by the red army, Stalin's occupier. The "boot" sounds all too relevant for today's divided times, in which innocent people are being slaughtered again by the same empire, which apparently has not changed after more than 70 years. This text must have its meeting with the widest possible audience", emphasizes the writer and playwright Emil Andreev. "After the premiere of the play "Dobrolyub" by Lilo Petrov (award of the "New Play Competition" of the NBU 2019, nomination for the IKAR 2020 award), the Bulgarian theater scene for the first time talked about a topic that has been silent for decades. The sinister machinations of the repressive communist apparatus somehow remained locked in the documentary books of Hristo Hristov, Vili Lilkov and many other authors. But they rarely reach a wider audience, and even more rarely do they reach the younger audience, who are, unfortunately, extremely misinformed on the subject to date. The courage that Lilo Petrov has to tell us about the cruelty of these self-proclaimed thugs who issued death sentences with ease should also be bravely supported. I personally believe that the appearance of authors like Lilo Petrov is completely natural and absolutely necessary on the Bulgarian theater scene. And I'm sure that the play "The Boot" will not go unnoticed", notes the writer and screenwriter Alexander Chobanov.
