Athletics: EKIDEN ATHLETICS MARATHON 2026

About this event

A relay marathon that gathers thousands every fall for a charitable cause with a start-finish in front of the "Vasil Levski" National Stadium. "Sofia Ekiden Marathon” is a team competition of the classic distance, with each team consisting of six people who travel a total of 42.195 km. The runners are divided into stations of 5 km + 10 km + 5 km + 10 km + 5 km + 7.195 km = 42.195 km. The discipline is licensed by the International Athletics Federation (IAAF), and the track in Sofia meets all standards. The name “ekiden“ comes from the Japanese "handover of the post", as a traditional competition in the land of the rising sun for many years.  For more information, visit the event's special Facebook page.
