About this event

From August 13 to September 9, 2026, Le Papillon Art Gallery is pleased to present the fabulous painting of Liliana Dvoryanova with a first solo exhibition in Varna. Twenty-four "Flying stories", each fascinatingly told without the expressive means of words, but with those of painting, transport the viewer into the magical world of Liliana. A world inhabited by strange creatures - birds, butterflies, insects, animals, people, strange little characters who inhabit spaces with a deliberately open border between the possible and the impossible. These are not fictional fairy tale characters, but probable images living somewhere out there—in the grass, in the trees, by the lake, under the moon, in a courtyard that may be very close to us. The first thing we feel when we stand in front of "Flying Stories" is that we have not entered a fictional unreal place, but have been given the opportunity to challenge our imaginations from the nature around us. We are challenged to return to the feeling of being alive and being able to imagine the impossible. The more we look, the more we realize that these are not just stories with "Magic Tea", "Lake in Love", "Courtyard", "They Who Harnessed the Moon", "Bird at Heart", "Fourth Pig", "Hannah of Fireflies", meetings, journeys, rituals, strange events and even stranger characters. These are little stories about us. For that person in us who could once believe that "the moon can be harnessed," that "a lake can fall in love," that a bird can carry someone's heart, and a handful of fireflies can have a home. Then we grow up and start calling these things "imagination". We order the world and name and define boundaries between real and unreal, reasonable and impossible, human and animal, nature and culture, waking and dreaming. And maybe art is the place where these boundaries can be shifted again? There's an old human dream that we don't talk about enough, and that's to fly. Not just to get somewhere faster, not to rise above others, not to escape the earth forever, but just to feel for a moment that release that comes when the body ceases to weigh. Perhaps the dream of flying is actually a dream of freeing ourselves for a little while from our own weight — from fears, from habits, from seriousness, from everything that we begin to accept as inevitable over time. A butterfly, a beetle, a bird, and man have more in common than we tend to admit—they are all small, temporary, vulnerable, driven by some inner impulse that makes them seek light, food, proximity, the other, direction, and sometimes—something beyond themselves. Perhaps that is why the butterfly is such a powerful image. It is both earthly and almost impossible. It weighs nothing and yet has its own direction. It spends its life close to the grass, yet belongs to the air. Man also stands firmly on the ground and throughout his life dreams of not only that. There is something so human about our desire to be more than the burden we carry. The exhibition can be seen from August 13 to September 9, 2026 in the exhibition hall of the gallery in Varna, Dragoman Street 12, and also viewed on the website artpapillon.com or fb: Le Papillon Art Gallery.
